Branding is not Marketing

Many companies and even marketing agencies often confuse branding with marketing. But the two are not the same.

Branding is about shaping and influencing how customers feel about your product or service while Marketing is really about giving customers offers they can\’t resist.

It\’s easy to confuse branding for, and even think it\’s more important than marketing. For instance, when you watch BB Naija, you see a fancy Pepsi Ad that feels really cool and you want your company to do the same.

What you may not realize is that Pepsi is a strong brand that has been around for several decades. They\’ve been marketing Pepsi wayy before some of us were born. They\’ve spent and still spend billions of dollars on advertising of all sorts. We\’ve all tasted Pepsi several times. Most people are familiar with the brand so Pepsi can afford to do more branding and less marketing.

But you can\’t. Don\’t Confuse Branding with Marketing.

When you\’re a young growing company, your focus should be on marketing aggressively to acquire as many customers as possible. When you\’ve done that successfully, then you can go big on branding.
